Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Final Project- Topic 4
Pick two similes or metaphors from the book and explain their meaning.
This project must be original and creative. It must be organized, and truly show your knowledge of the characters and the content from the novel. Make sure to be “in character” when you’re explaining the similes/metaphors from the perspective of the character. Use dialect like that of the Logan family. After the group has analyzed two similes or metaphors, you will choose one that will be presented to the class. (You will still turn in both written explanations). You may use GarageBand to voiceover an illustration that you have drawn, or create an iMovie, etc. to record yourself analyzing the metaphor as one of the characters. You may want to add pictures, music, etc. to help the class truly understand what the metaphor or simile means.
You will use your wikispaces account to create a wiki where your group will be able to collaborate and add information for the final product. You can organize your script on the wiki.
There is a rubric on the back of this sheet explaining how the final product will be graded. You will have some time in class to work on the project, but you must spend time at home researching and planning. You can add the information you find at home to your wiki, where your group can easily access and edit the information.
Mrs. Michael or Mrs. Fritts will meet with your group individually to further discuss requirements and your plans for this project.
Roll of tunder
Hear my cry
ovr' the river
bye and bye
ole man comin'
down the line
whip in hand to
beat me down
but i ain't gonna
let him turn me 'round
The poem We just explained talks about black family's hope for a better future. They want to boycott white stores and businesses. Like the Logan's boycotted the Wallace store in the book. At the same time though they don't want to be caught. Because if they are caught then they will be hurt or even put to death. The Black people are saying that even if it may take for ever for themselves and the whites to be equal, that we will stand their ground, pray to God, and hope that there is a better future to come.
at the end.
TJ had always been A part of me, and a part of my life , just like the mud and the rain and the dust would all pass.
This metaphor means to me that the mud and the rain and the dust had always been a part of me a part of my life. What the metaphor means to me is that TJ had been always just their and always around her just like the rain and the dust had always been around her. Why it's important to the book is it is telling the reader about that Cassie had feeling that way is because something bad had happened to TJ and now Cassie is missing TJ. Because Cassie may never see him again.
Answer the following questions:
"I had never liked TJ, but he had always been there, a part of me, and a part of my life, just like the mud and the rain and I had thought that he always would be." What are the two things that Cassie is comparing: Cassie is comparing TJ to the mud and the rain and the dust.
Explain what happened to T.J. in the night: What happened to TJ in the night when the night men came and took TJ gave him a beaten then were just about to hang him until Mr. Logan caught the cotton on fire then they went immediately to their homes and tried to put the fire out so it wont burn their stuff.
Interpret why Cassie is comparing the seasons to what happened to T.J.:
Cassia is comparing TJ to seasons because mud, rain, and dust had always been a part of her life and around her just like TJ had always been around her and a part of her life.
